The 2010 BOMA Office Standard

Cover This standard is available from BOMA - the Building Owners and Managers Association - under the title "Office Buildings: Standard Methods of Measurement and Calculating Rentable Area". It carries the designation ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-2010 and supercedes the 1996 BOMA Office Standard.

To obtain this standard, call BOMA at 1-800-426-6292 or download it at www.BOMA.org. It costs $44.96 for BOMA members and $53.96 for non-members. Like all current BOMA standards, it comes only as an electronic download with DRM constraints.

This standard has been around since 1915 and has evolved through several versions. The current 2010 version is significantly expanded to 69 pages, improved from the previous 1996 version by the addition of many new definitions and illustrations, and incorporates many new features that the real estate industry has demanded. It applies only to office buildings.

In flex-space properties the BOMA Industrial Standard should be considered. In the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and New York City, the GWCAR and REBNY standards, respectively, are often used.
