The RICS Measurement Standard

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) publishes the Code of Measuring Practice: A Guide for Property Professionals for application only in Great Britain. The current version is the Sixth edition published in September of 2007.

For those in the U.S., the easiest way to obtain it is via the Internet at the RICS Book Store using a credit card. At the time of this writing, it cost £30 plus £10.50 shipping for a total of £40.50(about US$65) and is available only in hardcopy.

This substantial 37-page standard complements the RICS Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works that is used for construction cost estimating. Like the ISO Standard it defines three main measures of space but also includes a section on accuracy that I have seen in no other measurement standard.
